Right of the Month
In 1989, governments across the world adopted the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), recognising that all children have the right to be treated with dignity and fairness, to be protected, to develop to their full potential and to participate.
At Westwood we display a "right each month" and use this to promote discussions, lessons and assemblies.
The right of the month of February is....
Article 2 - Everyone has these rights, no matter what their differences are.
Each month, there will be an activity to go alongside the right to promote discussion and support you in working towards the right.
For February the activity is:
To complete a hand print to align with the Children Mental Health Awareness week theme of "This is my place". Your hand print will need to have 5 things outlined that make you feel like you belong in school.
Please see below for our Rights of the Month calendar, designed by our Healthy Heroes at Westwood.
Month | Right | Activity |
October | I have the right to be as healthy as possible. | To complete a ticklist of how many times you completed a healthy habit a day. |
November | I have the right to be listened to and taken seriously. | To take time to listen to a close friend when they are feeling down. |
December | I have the right to live and grow as a person. | Record on seesaw a time where you were knocked down but you got up again! |
January | I have the right to be listened to and taken seriously. | To complete the form sent out by the healthy heroes to share your views. |
February | All children have these rights no matter what their differences are. | Every student contributes a handprint with their name and 5 things that make them feel like they belong. This is to be displayed within the hall area. |
